A capital gains tax cut?! Really, John -- you're going to go with THAT as your best idea?!

Sixty percent of voters in a CBS/New York Times survey said John McCain has spent more time attacking Barack Obama than explaining issue positions, while the same number said Obama spent more time explaining than attacking. Combine that with the deficit McCain is facing in the polls, he is clearly faced with a challenge. He needs to completely change the course of the race, but that will be almost impossible to do by just talking about his economic plan (like he did yesterday).

On Tuesday, John McCain proposed $52.5-billion package of new tax breaks that he said would stimulate the economy. Guess what -- he's wrong. He proposed cutting the capital gains tax in half for two years, but what good is that when not too many people even have capital gains these days?! This is one of those things that sounds good on the campaign trail but doesn't really pass a close inspection.

McCain also wants to suspend taxes on unemployment benefits for workers making less than $100,000. This is a good idea -- and a fair one ... which means it probably has little chance of becoming law.

The bottom line is that McCain is so far behind that he will propose just about anything or say pretty much anything about Obama.
